Interdisciplinary Research Club 'Humanus’
Who are we?
We aim to reflect on cultural, social and ethical problems posed by human activity in the Anthropocene, i.e. the “age of the human.” We focus mainly on media, film and literary representations of cultural, social and ethical problems. We intend to creatively mix different discourses, narratives and disciplines so that science and the humanities do not belong to separate spheres but are in dialogue with each other.
What do we do?
Our meetings are concerned with debates, film discussions, workshops, presentations, and cultural and social activities revolving around the following topics:
Culture and communication:
• cultural traditions,
• cultural norms and stereotypes,
• how culture affects communication,
• representation of cultural and social issues in art and media.
Medical Humanities:
• bioethics, e.g. ethical issues regarding transplantation, in vitro or euthanasia,
• clinical ethics,
• how different cultures, religions and societies influence medical ethics;
• how media and art problematize issues connected to bioethics and clinical ethics.
Environmental Humanities:
• how media and art can help us understand ecological crisis;
• the impact of capitalism and colonization on the environment;
• environmental injustice;
• sustainable development and different cultures.
Activism:
• Engaging in activism can help us take a fresh look at the world’s problems and positively impact society. We organize events aimed at providing social care and support.
