KEY ADVANTAGES OF THE PROGRAM

Why study Drone Technologies at UITM?

You study in the center of the Polish aviation industry

You study in the center of the Polish aviation industry

You will study in Rzeszów, in the heart of dynamically developing Aviation Valley, where the aerospace industry and many global and Polish aviation companies are concentrated. The region is a Drone Cluster and Drone Valley with the first Polish Center for Certification and Development of Unmanned Systems. The voivodeship allocated about 1.2 billion PLN for drone technologies. As a result, you will have a real access to companies in the UAV, IT, and automation sectors. This translates into internships, placements, and your first professional experience during your studies, which is crucial for entering the job market in the drone and IT industries.

You gain the skills of the future by combining drones, IT, and AI

You gain the skills of the future by combining drones, IT, and AI

You will gain knowledge and skills that combine computer science, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and drone technology. You will learn how to program, analyze drone data, and implement AI solutions in UAV systems. These are the competencies that, according to reports, are crucial for the development of digital economy and service automation. Currently the drone sector relies on system autonomy and data processing (Data Driven Drone Economy). You will master the ability to use data for various drone applications, including public safety and emergency response, surveying and construction, as well as precision agriculture.

You build and program drone systems from scratch

You build and program drone systems from scratch

You will operate in practical way: designing, configuring, and testing unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), including FPV builds. You will learn about electronics, sensors, control systems, and drone operating systems. As a result, you will gain practical engineering skills and prepare, among other things, to obtain the A1/A3 UAS remote pilot certification. You will create orthophotomaps, analyze multispectral data, and learn image processing. This develops skills that are currently in demand in sectors such as GIS, smart cities, and Industry 4.0.

You get to know real-world projects, work with experts, and build a professional network

You get to know real-world projects, work with experts, and build a professional network

Classes are taught by practitioners: engineers, UAV specialists, and experts in aviation law (EASA). You will learn current technologies and regulations that apply in the industry. Through the university’s cooperation with the unmanned systems sector, you will gain access to knowledge and projects that closely reflect real-world solutions. You will study in an environment that promotes networking and entry into the UAV industry. This is important because, according to drone market analyses, the development of the sector is based on collaboration between business, technology, and research.

You enter an industry with high earning potential

You enter an industry with high earning potential

The drone market is growing rapidly and is expected to reach a global value of approximately $50 billion by 2029. In Poland, the development of unmanned aircraft sector is supported by digitalization programs (U-space). UAV, embedded systems and AI specialists are currently among the best-paid professionals in IT. The importance of IT systems and AI solutions in production and use of drone continues to grow, along with the number and scale of drone applications, which are being integrated into the operational processes of various industries.

You will develop the ability to implement AI/ML models directly on onboard computing units and integrate them with drone operating systems. You will also learn how to practically use artificial intelligence tools to analyze data from onboard cameras, including real-time automatic object detection, classification, and tracking.

Security of mobile applications and embedded systems

You will learn how to protect unmanned systems and digital infrastructure from operational and cyber threats. You will become familiar with threat modeling for UAS systems, securing control communications, analyzing GNSS navigation resilience, designing and verifying the security of mobile applications, and managing identity and access (IAM) in drone ecosystems. You will also gain knowledge of practical mechanisms for data protection and maintaining operational continuity, including authentication, encryption, and securing control and data transmission channels against attempts to take control of the system, its vision, or telemetry, as well as against disruptions and interference.

Designing mobile systems

You will master practical skills in creating mobile platforms, from selecting propulsion and power systems, through integrating electronics and sensors, to configuring control systems and performing missions. You will learn how onboard computers work and how to use software for configuration, mission planning, and flight monitoring. You will gain skills in system configuration, calibration, and diagnostics, route planning (waypoint setting, automated path creation, and failsafe mode configuration), as well as log analysis and tuning ESC controller parameters. You will also gain knowledge of operational safety, including failsafe mechanisms, emergency stop (E-stop), and watchdog systems.

Data management

You will master the principles of designing, securing, and maintaining data flows in unmanned systems. You will also gain knowledge about critical elements of data engineering specific to drone environments, including acquiring, aggregating, and processing telemetry, imaging data, and mission logs, as well as designing secure and fault-tolerant communication channels between UAS, ground control stations, and the public cloud (ensuring data confidentiality, integrity, and availability through access control and encryption mechanisms). You will learn about highly scalable and efficient NoSQL and SQL databases optimized for fast read/write operations and distributed environments.

Embedded systems programming

In this course, you will complete project-based exercises in real-time systems development, covering runtime environment configuration, handling peripherals and interfaces (including GPIO, UART, I²C, SPI, PWM, and ADC), and implementing typical control and data acquisition functions used in mobile systems.
